Areas of Academic Specialty
How many years have you been in the profession?
Why did you become a librarian?
After many successful years as a litigator. I finally noticed how much the law librarians I knew seemed to enjoy themselves. A career as an academic law librarian seemed the perfect fit for me: I would get to teach law students, I would be able to immerse myself in complex and novel legal research questions, and I would never have to sit through another boring deposition again!
Union role
I am proud to be a rank and file member of Local 1474 at UCB and serve on the endorsements committee for the local board
Why is it important to be active in our union?
Because together, we can be a force to be reckoned with.
How are you contributing to this round of bargaining?
  • I’m on the Table Team
  • I’m on the Statewide Bargaining Committee
  • I’m organizing & agitating on my local campus
What aspects of working conditions do you want to see improve for your fellow librarians?
Higher salaries, especially in the junior ranks where our newer colleagues are recruited, coupled with housing assistance and flexible work arrangements to reduce the work/life stresses caused by affordable housing shortages; realistic professional development support that will allow us to be leaders and innovators in our fields; academic freedom and full recognition of the academic, professional status of librarians.
When you’re not fighting for the rights of Unit 17 members, what do you do to unwind?
Cook, ride bikes all over the place with my family, read
What book are you reading right now?
Just finished another Tana French, currently listening to Roald Amundsen’s The South Pole (nightly bedtime reading for our 5-year-old), looking forward to diving into On Such a Full Sea

What is your favorite movie?

The Princess Bride (though the book is even better)

Do you have a favorite sports team?
Any team that isn’t sucking up a $20 million bailout from UCB
Tell us something most people wouldn’t know or guess about you.
I’m actually a koala (this is something my 5-year-old only recently revealed to me)
